The US treasury department has retained India in the currency manipulator watch list in its semi-annual report submitted to the Congress since COVID-19 induced global lockdown since March 2020. The reason being higher dollar purchases by RBI of close to 5% of GDP large on account of huge capital inflows, which is higher than its threshold of 2% of GDP.

NEW DELHI: BJP will not hold any big rallies in West Bengal amid an unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases across the country.
BJP announced that only 500 people will be present in public meetings even in rallies addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders in the state. It has been decided that only small public meetings with not more than 500 people will be held by PM Modi and other central ministers in West Bengal. All these public meetings will be held in open spaces following Covid-19 guidelines, BJP said in a statement. On the call of party president JP Nadda, dedicated Covid-19 helpdesk and Covid helpline to be released in all states. We have set a target of distribution of 6 crore masks and sanitisers in West Bengal, it added.

26% candidates in phase 7 of West Bengal polls declared criminal cases against themselves

Among the major parties, 9 (69 per cent) out of 13 candidates analysed from the CPI(M), 19 (53 per cent) out of 36 candidates analysed from the AITC, 19 (53 per cent) out of 36 candidates analysed from the BJP and 9 (47per cent) out of 19 candidates analysed from the Congress have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Twenty-six per cent of the 284 candidates contesting in the phase seven of the West Bengal Assembly polls this year have declared criminal cases against themselves, a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms stated. The West Bengal Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 284 candidates from 36 constituencies contesting in the polls to be held on April 26.
